We are excited to announce that People First Fire are pioneering emergency evacuation and introducing the dispersal method of evacuation to large Facilities and clients in Australia. After successful testing of this evacuation strategy, it was recently introduced at the new Brookfield Place Sydney Precinct. The initiative will possibly be introduced at the brand new One The Esplanade in Perth as well.
What is the Dispersal Method of Emergency Evacuation?
In a standard evacuation, evacuees are required to gather in one central allocated assembly space; in contrast, the dispersal method requires evacuees to separate from each other to different locations after exiting a building. This method incorporates exclusion zones not to be occupied by evacuees, as well as safe zones where evacuees should go to after leaving a building where an emergency response is taking place.
When Should the Dispersal Method be Used?
The dispersal evacuation method is best used where there is not adequate space for occupants of a building to safely evacuate and gather – such as busy city centres. There are many safety and business benefits to implementing this new method of evacuation, including:
- Allowing for business to continue offsite.
- Allowing for social distancing without the need for Covid Marshals and additional resources.
- Reducing security threats to large crowds of evacuees all gathered in one space.
- Reducing crowds entering a building at the same time, allowing for smoother, staggered reoccupation of a building.
- Reducing the need for additional resources to coordinate the assembly area and reoccupation of the building.
After the success of this first introduction, People First Fire will be implementing this new evacuation strategy across additional spaces where safer and more realistic to do so.
